Zakat That Makes a Real Difference

Every contribution reaches eligible refugee families in Jordan, empowering them to prioritize food, healthcare, and education.

Jordan continues to shoulder one of the highest refugee-hosting responsibilities per capita in the world. It hosts one of the world’s largest refugee populations, primarily from Syria, alongside Iraqis, Yemenis, Sudanese, Somalis, and others. More than one million refugees live across the country, with approximately 82% residing in urban areas where living costs are high, whilst another 12% living in formal camps.

Around half of the refugee population are children, reflecting the inter-generational nature of long-term displacement. For refugee families, displacement is no longer a short-term experience, but a prolonged reality marked by difficult choices between rent, food, healthcare, and education. Many households live below the poverty line and rely on humanitarian assistance to meet basic needs.

Through UNHCR’s Refugee Zakat Fund , your Zakat is delivered as direct cash assistance to refugee families who meet strict eligibility criteria under Islamic principles. This approach allows families to prioritise what matters most to them, while preserving dignity and reducing harmful coping strategies.
