Help Indonesia Earthquake and Tsunami Victims
Displaced families need your emergency support straight away.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi Island on Friday 28 September has tragically killed over 2,000 people, and injured more than 5,000 others. At least 680 are still missing, while 80,000 are homeless, and forced to find make-shift shelter at some 141 sites. Due to constant threat of strong aftershocks (over 630 so far), there are possibilities of landslides in mountainous/hilly areas and liquefaction in urban areas.
Communities have seen their houses, schools and hospitals reduced to rubble. Entire villages have been decimated.
UNHCR dispatched the first airlift with 1,400 emergency tents for families displaced by the disaster. We are preparing to airlift further aid in the following days, including additional tents and core relief items such as sleeping mats, mosquito nets and solar lamps.
A total of 1.5 million people are estimated to be affected by this disaster, with numbers likely to increase. As search and rescue efforts are underway, UNHCR aid can provide shelter and protection for up to 15,000 families, or some 75,000 people in need.
